PTSA Advocacy Survey Results & Recommendations

Thank you to the 126 parents, teachers, students and community members who took our Advocacy Issues & Interests Survey! Nearly 60% of respondents were PTSA members, over 50% had attended a PTSA meeting (in person or online) and 80% were parents or guardians. The primary campus of assignment for survey takers was split between King Street and Minnie Howard and approximately 75% of survey takers had students in the following three academies – STEM (35%), Business and Government (23%), and General Studies (18%).

The feedback we received covered a wide array of issues including the two-campus model, Academies/Pathways, academic instruction, teacher/staff pay, recruitment and retention issues, facilities, cell phone usage in schools, extracurriculars, mental/physical health, safety and security, Special Education, communications, equity and inclusion. The PTSA Executive Board shared highlights in a letter to the School Board on November 22 and offered our own list of suggestions that we hope can be implemented this year to improve the lives of our students, teachers and staff.

A copy of the letter can be found on our website under the new Advocacy tab. If you have any questions or would like to share your thoughts on these or other issues, please contact our Advocacy Chair Marguerite Rippy at advocacy@achsptsa.org.
