Join the Calendar Committee!

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) is seeking diverse and balanced representation from a variety of stakeholder groups - INCLUDING STUDENTS - to serve as at-large voting members of the calendar committee. Committee members canvass their stakeholders and bring the findings back to the full committee to help inform recommendations to the School Board. If you are interested in serving on the calendar committee, we ask that you complete the ACPS Calendar Committee Interest Form by noon on Wed., Oct. 2, 2024.  

Committee members should anticipate attending a minimum of three meetings in the fall of 2024 including:

  •  An orientation kickoff meeting on Wed., Oct. 9 at 4 p.m.

  •  A calendar drafting meeting for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 academic years on Mon., Oct. 21 at 4 p.m.

  •  A meeting to finalize recommendations on Wed., Nov. 13 at 4 p.m.


 The committee is seeking the following “at-large,” voting members:

  • One to two parents.

  • One to two elementary teachers.

  • One teacher from Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School.

  • One to two secondary school teachers.

  • One to two school-based support staff members.

  • One to two students.

  • One to two central office staff members.


Additionally, the following stakeholder groups will appoint individuals to serve as voting members:

  • Two representatives from the Parent Teacher Advisory Council.

  • One representative from the Education Association of Alexandria.

  • One representative from the Teacher Advisory Council.

  • Three representatives from the Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Center.


The Alexandria City School Board and superintendent have established guidance for the development of the ACPS academic calendar. School Board Regulation IC/ID - Rdefines committee membership, timelines and parameters for holidays, conferences and seasonal breaks for students. The regulation also calls for the committee to present a three-year calendar outlook.

This year’s calendar committee will verify the previously adopted 2025-26 academic calendar, draft a proposed 2026-27 academic calendar for Board consideration and draft a potential 2027-28 academic calendar for School Board information only.
