On February 20, the ACPS School Board voted to adopt the FY 2026 Combined Funds Budget with adjustments to the Superintendent’s Proposed FY 2026 Combined Funds (CF) Budget, including employee compensation enhancement changes and the addition of several crucial teacher and staff positions. The Approved Budget seeks to add a 1% Market Rate Adjustment for all eligible staff and include additional funding for ACPS retirees.
After adjustments, FY 2026 CF Budget would increase by $2,700,000 to $395.3 million dollars. School Board Member budget questions and answers can be found here. The City Council/School Board Joint Committee held a work session on the FY 2026 CF and FY 2026-2035 Capital Improvement Program Budgets on March 5. The budget currently under consideration by the City Council does not fully-fund the School Board's budget request.
Action Item: Use your voice! Between now and May 1, let City Council know that fully-funding the ACPS budget is a priority for you: https://www.alexandriava.gov/city-council/communicate-with-city-council. Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt will introduce the Superintendent's Adjusted Proposed Budget on the FY 2026 CF and FY 2026-2035 CIP Budgets on May 1. There will be a Public Hearing on the FY 2026 CF and FY 2026-2035 CIP Budgets on May 6 with adoption of the Final Combined Funds Budget expected during the regular School Meeting on June 12.
